Template:Album Mermaid vs. Sailor (stylized as "Mermaid vs Sailor") is the first EP by Welsh singer-songwritter Marina and the Diamonds. It was released in November 23, 2007 by herself and sold as a handmade CD-Rs through her MySpace page.

Background

The full EP it's written and recorded by Marina Diamandis in her room in a low quality, that it's the same quality that it can be hear in Give Me the Money!. "Plastic Rainbow" it's the first song that Diamandis wrote for the EP and it's the song that make her want to become a songwritter. "Seventeen" and "Daddy Was a Sailor" are about the relationship that she previously have with her dad, Demos Diamandis.

"Seventeen", "Hermit the Frog" and "Simplify" were reworked and recorded for her first studio album The Family Jewels, but "Simplify" didn't make the cut, anyways, she included the song in The Crown Jewels EP.

Artwork

The artwork contains a photo of Diamandis looking to the camera serious, with a black and white filter, the title in the middle in blue and pink and her pseudonym in black and yellow with three diamonds around the title and pseudonym. The artwork it was designed by herself, and probably made in Paint.
